If you are running Windows 7 and Linux on your primary PC, you may get a strange error as soon as you install Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I have already contacted three clients and reported that they may have been disabled by a specific error 0x800f0a12 in installation process. This is certainly not a fatal error, but it is still confusing.
The bug is definitely documented here , but you need to investigate the solution further. A Microsoft Endure Engineer already has the details of the problem and a painless solution . In all the cases I have heard of, this particular error is caused by checking that the service is actually running from the package installer. When it detects that the active partition is far from being able to boot Windows directly, an error message is often returned.
How do I reinstall Windows 7 SP1 manually?
Typically, they select the Start button> All Methods> Windows Update. In the left pane, select Check for Updates. If significant changes are found, select the View available updates link.Select Install Versions.Follow the instructions to install SP1.
The solution, according to this report, is to use Windows Disk Management by setting the System Reserved partition as active. If the section is reservedth system is missing, set the Windows zone as active.
After creating this hotfix, you should be able to run the SP1 installer.
Is there any problem in dual boot?
Dual Booting May Affect Disk Swap Space In many cases, running in tandem shouldn’t have a huge impact on your hardware. However, there is one issue to be aware of with swap activity. Linux and Windows use portions of the raw hard drive to improve performance while the computer is running.
If you encounter this error at any level (I personally did not find it), please let me know in the comment.

C: Users ga> mountvol / EAccess is denied.
The main reason I want to install it so badly is because Windows stopped recognizing my optical drive (in fact, it disappeared completely after a normal automatic update). It might be important to print it out.
EDIT:Byadvice @vcsjones I was able to run
mountvol / E

Does Windows 7 support dual boot?
You can install two (or more) Windows styles side by side on some PCs and choose between those companies at startup. Usually, you really need to install the most recent operating system first. For example, if you want to dual boot Windows 7 and 10, use Windows 7 and then start Windows 10 on the second.
