I have been using WinAmp Needed for several years on XP SP3, Win 7 and recently on Win 10.
My Lenovo T410 laptop was migrated from Win 7 to Win 10 last year. WinAmp worked fine and volume wasn’t a big new issue.
Recently I had to reflash Win 10 and clean the partitions for the new version. I restored all my data from a backup and restarted my applications, including WinAmp.
Some things were “purchased” from the old form. And winamp made the volume perform just fine. However, now when the product is loaded on the new Win 10, the volume is 50% less than before the reboot. To dominate the music listening experience (even with EQ boost) I have to move up the market by 50% to be satisfied.
At this volume, there is no clipping, as one would expect when the input has already “peaked” and even before it is processed by WinAmp.
I have run WinAmp several times, on XP SP3, Win 10 and most recently Win 10.

Something has now “switched” to an older version of WinAmp and the volume type is working fine. From now on, when downloading it to another new Win 10, the volume can be 50% less than before the reinstallation. To hear the guitar (even with the EQ gain), I need to set it to 50% and hear it satisfactorily.

If you are using the DirectSound output plug-in through Winamp, check the configuration options on the Devices tab to make sure it is the exact same selected audio device that the Windows Sound utility is targeting. .
While Winamp is running, you can find the maximum allowed volume for Winamp in the Windows Volume Mixer. I think I read somewhere that a recent Windows 10 update was important for this feature.
