Steps To Troubleshoot Audio Codec Loading Errors

    Symptoms

    When you try to play a video file in Windows Media Player 11, the video cannot be explored. However, the sound will play.

    Additionally, if you try to play an audio document or video file associated with Windows Media Player 11, you may receive an error message similar to one of the following:

    Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the required video codec is not installed on your computer. Media


    Windows Player cannot play, record, extract or attach a filebecause the required audio track codec is not installed on all of your computers.

    A codec is required to activate this file. To see if this process codec is available for download from the Internet, click Online Help.

    Invalid file format.

    This problem occurs as if the codec required to read the document is not installed on the computer.

    Resolution

    To fix this configuration issue yourself, Windows Media Player automatically downloads the codecs. To create one, follow these guidelines in Windows Media Player 11:

    1. Select options in side dishes.
    2. Select the “Player” tab, make your decision in the “Automatically download codecs” box, find and click “OK”.
    3. Try to enjoy reading the file.

    When prompted to use the codec, select Install. If your company still can’t read the file correctly, try the steps in the advanced troubleshooting section.doc. If you are not satisfied with advanced troubleshooting, have someone else do or help you, contact Microsoft Support .

    Obtain and install the codec by following these steps in Windows Media Player 11:

    1. Check if the codec is installed on the computer that you are likely to use to play the file. To do this, follow these steps:

        • You did not write the codec in step 1b.
        • Can’t find the codec of the person you wrote down in step 1b on the website.

      4. Try playing golf on the file. If you can run the file, skip step 3.
